A LITTLE
ABOUT DAN
Born
in Brooklyn, NY in 1965. Raised on Long Island, where I had a pretty
good childhood. I was always tinkering with stuff. I had a mini
bike with a three-horse motor.
If there were ever a time where I could freeze my life, it would
be in that era. After the mini bike came the 68 firebird, which
you see posted on the site. A lot of cars have passed through my
possession. The Firebird holds a lot of teen-age memories. Sneaking
into the Point Lookout beach at night. The transmission fire, where
the three stooges with a fire extinguisher put it out, including
themselves. I can't forget prom-night. Although I loved working
on cars, I trained to become an Aircraft mechanic. I thought it
would be a more respectable career choice. I received my A&P
license from the FAA in 1984. I worked at Republic Airport for a
few months, and then moved to San Francisco for a career. I left
everything in search of a fulfilling career. With my firebird parking
in my parent's garage, my plan was to return home after the transfer
freeze had expired. Well, that took longer and entailed a little
side trip to Dulles, Virginia. Finally back in NY, life had passed
by for all my friends. Working a rotating midnight shift really
took a toll on the social aspect of life, and I could never regain
what was lost. During my weekdays off, I spent a lot of time at
the shooting range. Which grew into a passion for hunting. With
the threat of my parents selling the family homestead in the next
two years, I decided to do an off chassis restoration on the firebird
while I had the money and time. I completed the restoration in 1994.
You kind of go through a little hell during the process, but in
the long run it made me feel good. In 1996 the airline I worked
for was losing money. People took pay cuts for stock in the company.
The work environment took a turn for the worst. It came down to
two choices either I quit after 11 years or transfer to a better
station. I chose Boise. It was very small, and the work environment
was the best. Out of all the maintenance stations, the six men at
this station won awards for their performance. After the events
of September 2001, the layoff notices came in October. The Airline
made the decision for me easy. Fed up with the incompetent management
and worthless union, I took the layoff. All that stock I was forced
to buy was worth four times less then what was paid. Now at the
age of thirty-seven, I'm a full-time college student trying to get
a degree in electronics. If I could go back and change anything,
I wouldn't. I've met some good people along the way and things could
be worse in the other direction.
Well, it's been two years. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from BSU with an AAS in
Electronics Technology. I tried so hard to obtain a 4.0, but all I could achieve was a
3.952 GPA. I choked on a final in the last semester. In my opinion the professor failed
to present the class material in a manner that was conducive to learning. I'd pay a dollar
to watch somebody stick him in the ass with a pin. Since we live in a society that
always passes the blame for their failure on someone else. Hey! Why not me?
It's just a matter of time before I start this next project.
Thanks for your patience
